Grace Orphan Home
Grace Orphan Home is a Christian, faith-based, non-profit organization, as recognized under the laws of Nepal, and is dedicated to transforming the lives of children. In 2009 it was registered under the Social Welfare Act of Nepal. Pastor Lila and his wife, Rina have two children and care for sixteen orphans. They live in Dhulikhel, Nepal, 40 km outside the capital, Kathmandu.
Background
A few years ago Lila was working with a mission organization called YWAM. As his ministry commitment was finishing, he knew he needed to spend time in prayer to seek God’s guidance about his next steps in life. The Lord led him to fast for three days. The first two days he did not hear from God. As the third day slowly passed, he began to struggle with thirst, but he persevered praying and worshiping God. As he did, he felt the Holy Spirit whisper in his heart, “you have to do something for the orphans and widows”. He shared this with Rina, his wife, and she supported him in this calling. In 2005 the Lord gave Lila Tamang the opportunity to start Grace Orphan Home in addition to pastoring a small church down the road. Please pray for Lila, Rina and the children at Grace Orphan Home.
Lila’s Testimony
Lila Tamang comes from a small Buddhist village situated in the foothills of the magnificent Himalayan Mountains. Lila was six years old when his mother became very ill. She went to a witch doctor to appease the afflicting spirits yet she became all the more ill. One day, a Christian came to her village and declared the healing power of Jesus over her sickness. From that moment, Lila’s mother, slowly grew stronger day by day. She saw the power of Jesus over her sickness and believed! This sparked her husband’s curiosity about this Jesus-God who heals. He bought a Bible to prove it erroneous, yet after reading through the Holy Scripture, he could not deny the all-consuming PEACE that filled him. He could not deny the truth of this Word and accepted the Lord Jesus as Savior. Slowly all of Lila’s family came to Christ. As Lila’s father matured in his faith he boldly shared this Good News with his relatives and village neighbors. They were indignant and responded with harsh persecution. They beat him with a club. His uncle came with an axe and cut the center pillar of their house so it tumbled over. Their neighbors stole their crops–corn and rice. Another uncle stole all their belongings. Eventually they were kicked out of their village. After three years, Lila’s father returned and the Lord graciously opened a door to plant a church. Now there are nearly 300 believers in his home village!
Vision
By 2030, Lila sees God moving in a way in Nepal that will impact thousands of children and bring thousands of souls to salvation in Christ. He longs to see God’s Kingdom come in Nepal, particularly in the unreached Himalayan regions where villages are hard to reach and forgotten. He plans to do this by planting 200 churches and 20 orphanages in the next 16 years. He also plans on financially supporting 1,000 children who are from villages that have been affected by the civil war in Nepal in the past ten years to give them education and hope of a better life. Lila has big dreams for the future but he believes that all things are possible through Christ and we are choosing to stand with him to make these dreams a reality!
You can help be a part of Lila’s dream to transform Nepal. We are helping provide for some basic needs, such as rent and educational costs for his children, so that he may spend more of his time growing his ministry and transforming Nepal.
